Youtube. Do Something About False DMCA Claims and Votebots! sign now

Dear YouTube,

A while back, a YouTube user twittered about a site where Google is allowing people to submit ideas for the betterment of YouTube.

The writer of this petition immediately joined and submitted his first idea. It was about DMCA. It said this:

"Tighten up control over the whole DMCA system. As it is now, numerous false DMCA claims are constantly being filed, and this needs to be stopped."

Voting for this idea has closed, but when it was open it garnered 5,638 votes. In addition, 52 more people submitted ideas and complaints relating to DMCA, all garnering tons of votes.

You responded, YouTube, saying this:

"Content owners who file copyright infringement notifications under the DMCA do so under penalty of perjury. When we receive a DMCA notification, we remove the posted video, send email to your registered address, and provide notice in your account. Sometimes individuals abuse the process, or are simply mistaken, because determining copyright ownership can be tricky. If you believe your content was misidentified as infringing or is a fair use, you may file a DMCA counter-notification."

Well sorry YouTube, but that's not good enough. Certain users have been filing false DMCA claims ever since you sold out to Google. Many users, including supposed partners, have had their accounts suspended because of FALSE DMCA claims.

False DMCAs have been used as weapons to censor and silence YouTube users who simply express truth on their channels. The process taken to restore videos and, indeed, channels, that have been removed is annoying when you KNOW your videos were not actually violating any copyright laws. As such, time is wasted, nerves are frayed, and it takes longer to get to more viewers. It's not hard to imagine that for partners the whole thing becomes even more annoying. As partners are making money on their videos, to have them removed because of false DMCA claims must be infuriating. False DMCA claims only serve to annoy users who should otherwise be enjoying their YouTube experience.

So, as a response to your PATHETIC response to the "fix DMCA" ideas submitted to your site, this petition is being started. YouTube, if you do not bow to the requests of your users, It's possible you could lose users.

So you want to lose users, YouTube?

No?

Then fix DMCA. The system is too easily abused. You know this is true.

Do something about it, for the sake of your users.

And while we have your attention, what about votebots?

Votebots are yet another issue users have dealt with and continue to deal with. In many cases, votebots are there to mark down the ratings of videos of certain users whom the people doing the votebotting don't agree with. Like false DMCA claims, votebots are yet another weapon contributing to the censorship of YouTube users.

So, do you think you can do something about votebots, as well?

Please?

Thank you for your time.
