WSOU 89.5 to Add Hip Hop Programming sign now

February 18, 2005

Seton Hall University is regarded as one of the most diverse campuses in the United States. With this diversity, the University strives to accommodate the many social, ethnic and religious groups it contains. Seton Hall provides countless opportunities for these circles of people with similar interests and backgrounds to gather and express themselves. The undersigned feel that Seton Halls Pirate Radio Station (WSOU 89.5) should more avidly reflect these same values in their programming.

WSOU is noted across the New York/New Jersey area for its attention to underground rock, and for separating itself from other stations, whose primary focus is much more commercial. Although we respect WSOU for its accomplishments, it still remains a part of Seton Hall University and should suit the interest of more students, while still holding onto its core audience.

Hip-Hop has quickly become one of the most popular forms of music embraced by all kinds of people. Its influence transcends solely listening to the music itself, but shows up in peoples everyday dialect and style of dress. Not only would a slight change in programming satisfy people with a wide range of musical tastes, it would bring WSOU new listeners, widening its fan base. Many students at Seton Hall would love to support their own school station if only it was of interest to them. Many would tune in to a session that included their musical tastes, and for those outside of the NY/NJ area, the internet stream is always there.

The following signatures are of people who fully support the idea of incorporating a Hip-Hop segment into a part of WSOUs programming.
