Wildlife & Rehabilitators in New Jersey Need Help sign now

ORPHANED AND INJURED WILDLIFE IN NEW JERSEY NEEDS SUPPORT

Wildlife rehabilitators are volunteers who care for orphaned and injured wildlife until it can be released back to nature. While licensed by NJ State, they receive no payment for their services, and absorb the costs of transportation, caging, specialized diets and veterinary care out of their personal finances, with occasional donations and grants.

As of now, there are not enough wildlife rehabilitators to serve the needs of the public and the orphaned and injured wild animals that citizens find each year.

In 2002, there were 94 rehabbers, handling over 18,300 animals and 46,000 phone calls.

In 2004, there were 52 rehab licenses issued, yet the number of animals and calls did not lessen.

Senate and Assembly Bills S 2325 & A3939 would establish a New Jersey Wildlife Rehabilitation Licensing Study Commission, in order to study, evaluate and develop recommendations relating to the most effective means to increase and maintain the number of licensed wildlife rehabilitators in a manner that will provide adequate no-cost wildlife rehabilitation services in all areas of the State.

More rehabilitators means more care for (at no cost to the citizens or state) the increasing numbers of injured or abandoned wild animals that are found by the public.

Thank you for your support.
