We Charge Mentacide sign now

In 1951, William Patterson, Paul Robeson and members of the Civil Rights Congress presented a petition called, "We Charge Genocide:The Crime of Government Against the Negro People" to the United Nations. On September 13, 2010, the 14th anniversary of the death of Tupac Shakur, we present the petition "We Charge Mentacide: The Crime of Hip Hop Used Against Black People" to the global African community.

Dr. Bobby Wright defined mentacide as "the deliberate and systematic destruction of a group's minds with the ultimate objective of the extirpation of the group." We believe that members of the entertainment industry have co-opted Hip Hop and used it for the mentacide of African people, globally.

The 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide defines genocide in Article II Section B as "causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group" and Section C "deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part."

We believe the leaders of the music industry, as well as their willing accomplices within Hip Hop have created conditions that have led to the attempted destruction of the global African community physically, mentally, socially and economically.

Therefore, on this day, September 13th, we charge the music industry with mental genocide!
