Wake County Public School Board of Education
C/O: Parking Pass Fee Increase

It has come to the attention of the students and families of Wake County Public Schools that the resent increase in parking pass fees have gone beyond a reasonable price.

For the upcoming school year [2005-2006] the increase in parking pass fees for students have doubled. The current price is two-hundred, forty dollars. This is a jump from the past of one-hundred, twenty dollars.
In order to maintain the integrity of the public school system, we must keep what is best for student in mind.

Ramifications of this issue:
Many students will be unable to afford the new price for a parking pass. This will increase the number of pupils taking the, already crowded bus. If our school system is already unfit to transport the student currently taking the buses, there is not feasible way to fit the overflow of students that will not be driving to school.
Student would also try and find other means of parking. This might include parking a distance from school and walking. Parking in some areas would be completely unsafe and unsuitable. The increase in non-school related violence would increase greatly.
Under North Carolina Law, the graduated licensing program would not allow students to carpool. Most students can only carry one person with them in their car, which most do already. Therefore, carpooling is not an option.
Cafeteria would be unable to feed and seat all students who are now unable to exit school grounds for lunch.
The gain in money foreseen by this increase would only decline for its original intake due to lack of students parking.

[Grounds of Petition]

We, the students and parents of Wake County Public Schools, petition those responsible [Wake County Public School Board of Education] for the current increase in parking pass fees for students. We petition to have this astronomical price, reduced back to its original cost of the already high, one-hundred, twenty dollars.
We feel the repercussions of this choice, to increase the parking pass fees, are not worth the extra funds expected from this rise in price. The well being of students are the first priority of the school system. The benefits of raising the price do not out weight the problems and consequences that will arise from this issue. There are other ways of collecting money, other than putting students at risk of serious consequences in which the school system is unfit to handle.
Do to the overwhelming negative ramifications that would come from raising the parking pass fee for a student, we feel it should be returned to the original price.

It has come to the attention of the students and families of Wake County Public Schools that the resent increase in parking pass fees have gone beyond a reasonable price. We therefore set forth this petition in writing.
