Use Padmanabha Swamy Temple Treasure for Public Welfare sign now

The Chief Minister State of Kerala

Cc: Chief Justice Kerala State High Court
Central and State Finance Ministers
Travancore Palace Authorities

Sirs,

An intensive debate is now brewing up among the public, media and among all streams of civil and political society in Kerala regarding the huge treasure recently unearthed from the secret vaults of Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Trivandrum. The mere face value of the treasure is estimated at 900 billion rupees (more than 20 billion dollar) and which would rise to further heights if its historical value is evaluated.

The treasure is now being interpreted as either belonging to the temple or to the Hindus, whereas in reality, it was amassed by plundering and foreceful extraction from the people in general and the downtrodden community of the public in general through intermittent wars, looting, taxes, penalties, mandatory tributes (for all social occasions) and etc. Details of such plunders and exploitations are explicitly recorded in Kerala history.

As such this treasure or wealth, whatever name you may call it, belong to the people of Kerala and utilized for the general good of the public instead of being kept, revered and protected in museum.

State and Central Government should acquire this immense wealth and use it for the people. Our esteemed courts should direct and ensure that the Government properly utilize this wealth for the overall and general welfare of the public.

Travancore Palace authorities should come forward to admit that this money belonged to the public and that they or the temple or even the gods do not have any claim on this immense wealth.

Many of us are disappointed and shocked to see that efforts are being initiated to make this wealth a museum piece and as such a dead asset. We would look like fools if we go by this plan. And, a time would definitely come when our children or grandchildren would question and persecute us for sleeping(like that god Ananda Padmanabha himself) on such treasure without having done anything for them and for participating in this great treasure robbery. They would mock at our sanity.

What our society needs now is public schools, government hospitals, government welfare and rehabilitation schemes for the poor and destitute, public infrastructures and employment schemes to rehabilitate the unemployed. This money should go for and serve such purposes.
