US Senators Push for Human Rights Sanctions on Iran (Thanks to Senator McCain and Senator Lieberman) sign now

To The United States Congress:

Islamic Republic of Iran has been one of the main violators of human rights since the revolution in 1979. Several thousands of innocent Iranians have been executed in the prisons, women facing continuing discrimination in law and in practice, religious minorities such as Bahais are under persecution, labor union activists such as Mansour Osaloo have been arrested and tortured in the prisons, young women such as Taraneh Mousavi have been raped and killed after being arrested for protesting the 2009 election results, student activists such as Majid Tavakoli, Ahmad Ghasaban and Ehsan Mansouri have suffered physical and psychological abuses after being incarcerated in the prisons, many journalists and writers such as Mohammad Mokhtari and Mohammad Jafar Pouyandeh have been victims of chain murdering and many others are being tortured in the prisons, freedom of expression is very limited by internet access, newspapers bans and student journalists prosecution. As a result, millions of Iranians have left their home country and are currently living in exile.

Islamic Republic of Iran is also one of the biggest sponsors of terrorism in the world. They are supporting most terrorist organizations such as Hamas. While most of the countries in the world are worried about the nuclear research in Iran, they have completely ignored all human rights violations in Iran.
Senator Mccain and Lieberman have finally introduced a bipartisan legislation which addresses human rights issues in Islamic Republic of Iran. This legislation will impose targeted sanctions against members of Iranian government responsible for human right abuses.
This legislation cosponsored by Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL), Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Evan Bayh (D-IN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Robert Casey (D-PA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY), Sam Brownback (R-KS), Ted Kaufman (D-DE), and David Vitter (R-LA), requires the president to draw up and periodically update a list of names of Iranians who have perpetrated human rights abuses against their fellow Iranian citizens since June 12, 2009, presidential election. Individuals on this list -- which will be made publicly available -- will then be subject to targeted sanctions, including a visa ban and financial restrictions. The sanctions regime will expire when the President can certify to Congress that Iran has taken tangible steps to end human rights abuses, including the release of all political prisoners.
