We, students of Emory University, plead that Urdu Language courses be introduced as part of the Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies Department Language curriculum.

The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies currently offers Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Persian and Sanskrit. All languages taught by MESAS are offered at Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced and Directed Study/Supervised Reading Levels and all engage great success in enrolment. However considering the high interest expressed by the Emory community in incorporating Urdu, the language of over 104 million people around the world the second major South-Asian language, as part of the MESAS curriculum we feel the need for Urdu language courses be introduced as part of Emorys Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies Departments rich variety of languages.
