Union Employees for Equality sign now

The Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plan (MPIPHP), currently has two different sets of criteria for Straight members and for Gay/Lesbian members to add their spouse or domestic partner to the Health Insurance plan.

The requirements for a straight "married" couple to add their spouse:
Marriage License
OR
Drivers License

For a Gay/Lesbian "Domestic Partnership or Marriage", the requirements needed to add your spouse:
6 month waiting period
1 Affidavit of your Domestic Partnership
2 forms of proof of financial responsibility for your spouse
including:
-Joint checking account.
-Designation as each others life insurance beneficiary.
-Designation in a Will.
-Joint lease or rental agreement and or/mortgage.
-Joint ownership of a car.
2 threats of criminal prosecution under penalty of perjury.

As a union employee of the Film & Television Industry, I am shocked, saddened, and appalled at this open policy of discrimination. We demand that the Motion Picture Pension & Health Plan Board of Directors immediately cease and desist from this policy and treat our Gay & Lesbian Union brothers & sisters with the dignity and equality they deserve.
