Unfair RSA decision no notice for Provisional drivers sign now

On October 25th 2007 the RSA & the Irish Government made an unfair decision preventing holders of second provisional licences from driving on their own, none of us are questioning the reasoning behind this decision I think its a very good idea however it is grossly unfair to give just 4 DAYS notice for this to come into effect!!

The current waiting time to be given a test is 20 weeksthats 5 months, would it not have made more sense to reduce this waiting time before bringing such strict legislation into force?

What are the people who totally rely on their car to get to work to do, people that do not have a bus servicing their route AT ALL? Why introduce this as the clock goes back, as the winter sets in, as public transport is packed with school kids?

Many of us have bought cars in the past year, paying the insurance (up to 1000) and the car tax, a further 600 to be told now that it was all a waste and it will be at least 4 months before you can take a test..... probably longer now as everyone rushes to take a test. Had we been given adequate notice I would not have bought my car & most certainly wouldnt have spent half a day (taking time off work) and 38 renewing my license just last month.

I have no issue with what the RSA are trying to achieve I do however have a major issue about how and when they are introducing it. 4 days notice is unacceptable even to leave my job I have to give more notice!!

I propose they give us 5-6 months notice so this comes into effect the 30th March / 30th April to allow us time to take a test, to allow us to think of alternative routes to get to work and if this includes a half an hour walk at least the mornings & evenings will be brighter, & the weather better.
