*UD*Comprehensive Exams at the End of the Semester sign now

We, the graduate students of the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department of the University of Delaware, petition the French and Spanish departments to officially change the dates of the French and Spanish Literature Comprehensive Exams from the middle of the semester to the end of the semester. End of semester comprehensive exams will allow us to complete the course of study on which we are being tested. Examiners will still have ample time to grade the exams if the oral portion is given no later that the "Reading Day" assigned to that particular semester. This change is one very plausible attempt to regulate the FLLT department policies concerning comprehensive exams, as they vary greatly among the languages of French, Spanish and German. We ask that you strongly consider our petition which we believe to be in the best interest of your graduate students, as well as the entire Foreign Languages and Literatures Department.

I would like to add that the same circumstances should apply to the Pedagogy Comprehensive Exams and therefore they too should be rescheduled at the end of the semester.

It seems that holding Comprehensive Exams at the end of the semester will allow the students to more effectively and completely display their knowledge of the material. This information comes not only from their previous semesters of study, but also from

This change would be most helpful for me considering I will be taking three lit courses during the semester I plan to take my comps. Although I plan to have the materials read in time, regardless of the exam date, gleaning as much wisdom from my instructo

Having to take exams before you actually completed all the courses does not sound too logic, does it?

Although changing department policy typically requires more of a structured protocol, the urgency with which this must be addressed is immense. If we are to be tested on particular items from the reading lists that are covered in 875-level courses, pleas

Please make the Comps at the end of the semester. Let's recycle too! And save the pink dolphins! (www.savedolphins.org) But seriously, let's make the comps at the end!

Allowing graduate students to take the exam at the end of the semester is quite logical, since they would then be able to complete their course of study before being tested on it.
