Typing Time instead of Edutyping sign now

Dear Unit 5 Office,

Recently, a policy has been made to switch from using "Typing Time" keyboarding software to "EduTyping" keyboarding software in the class "Computer Skills". This is disadvantageous to students as well as teachers and administrators for the following reasons:

1: EduTyping does not provide incentive to proceed in the lessons. Where Typing Time had students proceed through logically spaced lesson segments up to a game, and let students work around segments and come back to them later, or repeat a troublesome segment. EduTyping only provides a "Screen __ of __" that cannot repeat or skip screens, and creates no motivation to complete a given section.

2: EduTyping gives a misleading impression of typing speed. Edutyping prevents students from making two consecutive errors. This means students can complete an assignment with 50\% accuracy, and that two students with identical speed and accuracy, one of whom places two errors next to each other, and the other who puts them two spaces apart, will have more different registered typing speeds than justified. Typing Time's indicator was consistent, and was more demonstrative of student's ability, while EduTyping's fluctuates in a "cloud" around a misleading figure.

3: Typing Time was more customizable. EduTyping stays to a fairly rigid set of perimeters, which do not always work well, while Typing Time is modifiable by the teacher for many different adjustable standards, and even customizable to the student, but only for fields denoted by a teacher.

4: Typing Time made more sense to students. EduTyping's "screens" have very little technique teaching, and no obvious focus, while Typing Time had lines and paragraphs that focused on a particular skill, as well as helpful animations and much more technique emphasis. Typing Time also yielded a more consistent speed measurement that was less dependant on the distribution of errors.

5: Typing Time was more linear. EduTyping has vague menus with little to no indication of where to start, and how they fit into the course, while Typing Time had clearly ordered and numerical lessons that progressed in an easily followable manner.

For all these reasons, as well as any not mentioned here, we express our support for reverting back to Typing Time software.
