To Yahoo Incorporated...

For many years, I personally have used Yahoo Chat as a form of communication with friends and family from all over the world. Your chat and messenger services are by far the best compared to everything available at the present time. However, it is your disregard for the needs and desires of your users that are seriously lacking. I have phoned your home office, spoke with your technicians and your customer service representatives and ran up against a brick wall every time. So, I will take the advice of one of your technicians and file this petition. Listed below is list of changes that we, as chatters who use your services daily, wish to see be made by your company.

A: The Return of Private User Rooms.

We understand that the user rooms were removed due to the online harassment issues, especially that of sexual predators who were harassing teenagers. However in all fairness, the removal of the private user rooms created by users was a short term solution for a very large problem. While pedophiles ran rampant, this happens regardless if they have their own user rooms or not. Alls Yahoo has accomplished in taking away their rooms is to force them into mainstream chat rooms that you provide. This is like allowing a psychopath into main population. At least when they had their own user created rooms they left the rest of us alone. In all fairness, any teenagers who walked into a room labeled " Older men for teen girls " they knew exactly what they were walking into. They're teenagers with intelligence, not five year olds. Even in the case that a teenager is so naive to place themselves into that sort of position, it comes down to their PARENTS to monitor their teenager's computer usage. For Yahoo to take the stance of " Big Brother " is a serious error... there will always be sexual predators online and offline. You can remove every chat system from the internet, and a pedophile will find another route. By taking away private rooms created by chatters you have punished those of us who have done nothing wrong. You have taken away in part the freedom to gather by special interests. If the internet had a constitution, you would have walked all over it. Please understand that you have punished many for the actions of the few. Return our private user rooms and find a better route to deal with online pedophiles in chat. We have noticed that you have changed the TOS regarding teenagers in chat. Thank you, we appreciate you protecting us from teens posing as adults to set up good people.. however by creating accounts with false date of births they have gotten around your " Under 18 " rule and they are still actively in chat. Removing the user rooms accomplished nothing so please return them. They were a safe haven away from other forms of online harassment that some of us avoided, and they were a gathering place for special interests.. such as online RPG, and discussions. It would also be nice to be able to have moderation powers over a room if you create it. If a disturbance arises in a room that you create instead of having to argue and bicker for hours and get off of topic, a creator should be able to bounce a problem chatter. PalTalk allows this, there's no reason why Yahoo cannot.

B: The Addition of Moderators.

Yahoo Chat is full of harassment and chatters lashing out at each other.. this disrupts the peace of others. Whether sexual in nature or otherwise. For years we have tried " booting " problem chatters.. and by doing so broken your TOS. We have had our accounts taken away because we have interrupted a chatter's use of your service due to their immaturity and nature to cause disruptions. This is a huge issue that I have told your representatives about for years. We do not enjoy kicking people off of chat, we do not enjoy taking their accounts, or locking them for days on end. We have tried the use of your ignore feature, but ultimately " ignore " is a waste of time. They change names, or bring in more than one name using different chat clients in order to harass people. Even if all their names are ignored by the majority of the room, if they key up on the voice chat...they make it impossible for us to use it. If you are going to punish us for removing troublesome chatters, then make a change. Chatters need to be moderated, simple. When I suggested moderators to your representatives I was told that unless we as chatters were willing to pay for Yahoo Chat, that it would not even be considered. I am not saying that EVERY User on Yahoo would pay for usage, however if certain changes were made for the better, they may consider it. However providing a chat system where online harassment is out of control is something that should have been moderated before it ever started. You have a responsibility to your users to provide them with some protection beyond that of a simple ignore option that doesn't always work. Please provide us with Chat Moderators who can remove and ban ip address' from your chat system when a user harasses another. We are not asking for moderation regarding every little aspect, after all chatters must assume responsibility for themselves as well, but the online harassment that goes on daily needs to be dealt with. We have tried over the years to do it ourselves, and we have gotten no where. Even using booters is pointless as they are often in the hands of power-hungry, attention-seeking, rude chatters who simply use them to cause disturbances.

C: The Removal Of Porn Bots.

We as chatters realize that there is going to be advertisement. If bot programs MUST be used, they should be used for something other than pornographic advertisement. I placed a porn bot on follow one day and it took me of all places to the Teen rooms. Imagine.. those same teenagers that you removed user rooms to protect at one time were seeing more porn bots then any other area in chat. I would go as far as to say that this was a bit on the hypocritical side. I understand that your techs state that your company has no control over porn bots, however I believe this to be untrue. As the operator of this service you have control over every aspect. Just because you do not choose to exercise this control does not mean you do not have the ability to do so. You are responsible for your services, this includes the thousands of porn bots that spam, harass, and disrupt chat with links and statements. I do not know if you receive any company support from those who operate these bots, but by doing the math you will end up with the same conclusion us chatters have. Remove the porn bots. If you must allow bots to run in the chat rooms, change the content to something that is not sexual in nature.

D: Stiffer Consequences For Users Who Violate The Yahoo TOS

This is a must. Those who have had their Yahoo accounts taken away simply make more. Those who have found themselves banned by their IP address simply change their IP address either by running behind a proxy or changing the external IP. There must be some way that you can prevent a user from every coming back to Yahoo for violating the TOS. Facing such a consequence could modify the behavior of chatters and help everyone be able to chat in peace.

Everything that I have asked for PalTalk provides...it provides some things more than Yahoo does, sometimes less. Yes, they do charge for the better services, but that's fine - some of us are willing to pay for those services. However, if we are going to pay for services then we want our cash going for better services then what we have seen over the years. We ask for better services, and a little consideration regarding what we as chatters desire. It probably never occurred to you the massive effect of removing the user rooms would have on us. You have caused many issues by taking them away because it forces those chatters of special interests into the main rooms where they're interests are not welcomed. By not allowing moderators in chat, you have allowed us to govern ourselves, but limiting us from doing it effectively - therefore.., govern us because we can't do it as the past has shown us. The harassment and spam we get from porn bots is not only irritating but absolutely harassment... something that violates your very own TOS. People who violate your TOS, continue to do so because they find ways around what you do to them in order to continue abusing the other chatters. We understand that you want us to report them, however these reports go unanswered and the problems continue. We expect better than that. Please understand we appreciate your services that you provide us, but you should appreciate us as well and provide services that we need and want.

Thank You...
