To remove the Weightwatchers advert from TV sign now

Your decision to air the current weightwatchers advert depicting a female singing/speaking/dancing along to a song with allegedly catchy lyrics has shocked the public of this once great country, and provoked many questions about why we should pay for a TV licence when we are subjected to nonsense like this.

The first time I viewed this commercial, I was initially disappointed at the fact you have purporsely aimed the advert at curvier women, thus making them feel inferior to the depicted character in the advert whose jeans now apparently fit her "booty".

My problem with this is that "booty" is by definition "goods or money obtained illegally". I would hardly find the use of this term appropriate for a company which takes money from clients in order to help them lose weight.

Another line in this advertisement states you can eat "yummy food 24/7". This in itself is an invitation for people to consume food 24 hours a day 7 days a week which in my opinion would only add to this country's increasing obesity pandemic.

I come to a further line in the song which I find offensive - "Walking tall, I like that mirror on the wall". This line promotes the fact that people should be tall and not small, thus making people who are of shorter stature feel inferior which could be defined as height descrimination. Plus the fact you are encouraging people who are uncomfortable with their size not to look into the mirror unless they have signed up to your company/product.

Finally, I find it disturbing that weightwatchers is targetted mainly at women, using a woman in the advert. By this, the advertisers are surely pointing out that women would be more vain than men and in an equal society this is not the case.

The advert is shown constantly throughout the day and particularly at times when children could be watching TV. In a modern society such as ours it could influence these children (who are our future) into thinking that for someone to be towards the higher end of the size scale is unacceptable and to poke fun at these individuals, which then encourages and increases the bullying suffered already by children at school. This is totally unacceptable.

I am fully aware of the fact yearly revenue from TV licences is distributed only to the commercial-free BBC channels which means other TV channels have to use alternative methods of earning money. Their main method is airing TV commercials. However, I believe strongly that there are limits to what could be called advertising. This commercial takes limits to the extreme and should not be viewed by anyone who cares about their own health and wellbeing. I believe the commercial should no longer be aired on TV, or at least the makers should redesign the advert with the aforementioned issues resolved.

You may attempt to nullify these perfectly valid statements but I and many other people agree with them.
