To: Ticketmaster CEO and president John Pleasants

In a recent news report on CBSNews.com, it was reported that Ticketmaster has plans to later this year begin auctioning off the best concert seats to the highest online bidders. According to the New York Times, there would be no limit on how high prices could go - it would be simply a matter of how much people were willing to pay. In my opinion, this all boils down to ticket scalping, which is illegal in some states. There seems to be some loophole in the law that will allow you and your company to get by with this. If an artist sets his/her ticket prices, who are you to say they should be sold at 10, 15, or even 20 times that price? There are some artists out there who are truly concerned that their tickets be affordable and reasonably priced, thereby allowing more fans to see their shows. If your company does go through with this plan, it will not only fail to deliver on it's promise that the biggest fans have the best seats, but it will definitely ensure that some fans won't be able to attend the show at all. We the undersigned petitioners, would like to make our voices heard and request that you abandon your current plans to rob some true fans of seeing their favorite artist in concert.

I love to go to concerts, and if they started auctioning the tickets off like that, then there is no way I could afford to go to shows anymore. And what do you think it would do for the economy in the long run? Make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Th

Please don't allow this to happen. Ticketmasters already sells tickets with surcharges and things that us ticket buyers should not have to pay!

I don't think this is fair to everyone. Not everyone has that kind of Money. So are you punishing us because we don't?

Tickets should not be sold for way more than their face value. If people wish to do that on Ebay or else where that is fine, but Ticketmaster should not be it's own auction for tickets. This way the fans do not have to pay outrageous prices just to see

Seems like people with money to blow always get the best of their wants. Why don't record companies sell their cd's to the person that is willing to pay the most for the cd's?? Bout as stupid huh??

The tickets to some concerts are quite expensive as it is: ie, Dixie Chicks at $65. But yet you still have a chance at getting a good seat by standing in line, calling, or going online. But with this auction idea, only people who have extra cash laying ar

I do not agree with having the ticket prices based on how much people are willing to pay. It's bad enough having to pay the high prices that are standardized!
  • 24 September 2010885. Krystal
I do not liek the idea of HIGHEST bidder it is unfair.

I will do without seeing my favorite artists to boycott Ticketmaster all together. Just because it may be legal doesn't make it right.

Not a good idea to auction off tickets
  • 22 September 2010882. Laura
This is a self-defeating effort as eventually, there will be a backlash from the artists and fans, alike.

That is wrong concidering that many people have to save for months just to go to a concert. Everyone should have a chance to go, not just the rich.

TICKETMASTER IS ALREADY A HORRIBLE ORGANIZATION & GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. THE ONLY REASON I EVER PURCHASE TICKETS FROM THEM IS BECAUSE THERE IS NO ONE ELSE TO GET THEM FROM. MUCH SUPPORT TO EVERY STADIUM (UT) THAT DOES NOT USE TICKETMASTER!
  • 20 September 2010876. Tammy
I don't think tickets should go to the highest bidder. That's just not fair to those of us who don't have $1,000 to pay for each ticket (or whatever the going cost would be)
