The Quiet Cove Petition sign now

If you agree that there should be no further delay in Dutchess County sensibly financing the new downsized $1.5 million plan for much-needed improvements at Quiet Cove Park in Poughkeepsie on the Hudson River ($3 million less than what was originally proposed by the County Executive in May)-- to make sure that necessary repairs are completed to prevent deterioration of facilities regarding critical underground utility/public safety infrastructure needs, along with restrooms, observation deck, waterfront promenade, floating dock for kayaking, riverfront level grading, and landscaping to make shore accessible-- done in time for next year's Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Celebration, sign on to this petition and pass it along to all you know.

Specifically, the new sensible downsized $1,500,124.23 plan for renovations at Quiet Cove Park includes the following nine pieces to make Quiet Cove more usable for residents, provide the river access and waterfront use originally intended, and allow Dutchess County to fulfill commitments and obligations for the parks development in order to honor the contractual partnership with New York State for this property:

-- $370,590 for utilities and building demolition (demolition and removal of the existing boiler plant building, new sewer branch lines, pump stations, branch water lines, SWWP report/implementation, electrical service and underground lines)

-- $266,400 for new restrooms and observation (repointing all exterior masonry, replacing existing asphalt roofing with cpdm and walkable pavers, repairing selective slate roofing, door/window replacement, roof-level guardrail, new stairs to roof, restroom facilities, second floor deck, and HVAC/ventilation)

-- $76,791 for the wooden boathouse (relocating the existing building on site, pouring new concrete piers 10" diameter x 6' deep, new concrete stairs and ramp, new roofing, windows, doors, interior partitions, lighting, outlets, controls, exit signs, smoke detection, switching, and electrical panel)

-- $101,200 for the community room (roof and foundation repairs, deck demolition and two-story reconstruction)

-- $169,018 for the masonry boathouse (replacing existing roofing with slate roofing, replacing rotted and water-damaged roof sheathing, replacing existing doors, replacing existing windows, painting existing fascia and soffit, replacing overhead door with stained wood door, new electrical lighting and controls, interior walls and office upgrades, and HVAC for the office portion and space heater in shop)

-- $88,000 for a sixteen-foot wide promenade and floating dock with ramp on the waterfront

-- $164,750 for grading amphitheatre, drive, paths, terraces, topsoil for disturbed areas and plant beds, crushed gravel for ADA pathways and loop drive, striping painted connector at tunnel, traffic light at tunnel, security lighting, yardarm/monument/flagpole, signage, seeding disturbed areas

-- $43,500 for re-doing entrance and improving the current parking lot (new asphalt surfacing, widening the entry, new entrance signage, striping/painted trail crossings, wood bollards and guardrail, stone steps for parking lot connection, and handrails)

-- $98,500 for additional landscaping and park equipment (stepping stone paths, shade trees, flowering trees, evergreen/buffer trees, and foundation plantings

[Fact is that this is not a new position for yours truly; personally, I've felt this way about Quiet Cove Park for quite a while now, contrary to an August 6th article in the Poughkeepsie Journal on this issue (especially after I personally toured the facility August 5th)-- and have also long been solidly in favor of no further delay in needed improvements to the two other county-run parks as well (Bowdoin and Wilcox)-- specifically, $962,000 for replacing the Wilcox Main House roof, and four roofs at Bowdoin Park (Pavilion 3, Milk House, Lower Garage, and Haunted Mansion), replacing windows and adding ceiling insulation at Mapleknoll Lodge at Bowdoin Park, renovation of the Community Center's first floor at Bowdoin Park, replacing and expanding playground equipment at Bowdoin Park, and finishing the Pavilion Project at Bowdoin Park (fact is also that Dem majority in County Legislature already earlier this year approved $4.5 million in needed extra funding for the Dutchess Rail Trail to be completed and link up to the Walkway on the Hudson).]
