The "Johnny Haynes End" / "Maestro End" sign now

I propose we rename the Hammersmith End of Fulham Football Club the "Johnny Haynes End" or "The Maestro End"...

Johnny Haynes... Fulhams most famous son and one of the most outstanding forwards in post-war British Football. And at Fulham, he is one of, if THE most dominant figure in The Cottagers 125 year history. In a career spanning almost 19 years on the Riverside he set records for...

- Most appearances (658)
- Most International Caps (56)
- Most Goals (158)
- He was one of the first players to ever star in an advertising campaign (Brylcreem)
- He is also famous for being the first ever player on 100 a week after the abolition on the maximum wage in 1961.

Yet with all this fame he spent his entire career with the Whites and missed out on every major club honour that may have come his way otherwise.

It was clear from the very start that Haynes had a natural talent... Blessed with magnificent distribution, control, and an amazing understanding and control of the game... He dominated play at a time the 4-2-4 formation demanded a midfield dictator.

The first of his 56 England Caps came in 1954, and by 1960 he was captain of the side...

Ironically a car crash ended his international career... and eventually it would end his league career. He played one more season for the whites after... His only season outside the top division...

Johnny Haynes' career was a model of loyalty and consistency, unlikely to be emulated by any player today, and for all his talents, he was a genuine, modest, nice man.

Genius and Legend are overused terms, but in this case, of the one and only Maestro, they are well received, appropriate, and deserved.

To every Fulham Fan, and anyone related with Fulham Football Club, he was better known as "The Maestro"... and that he will forever be known in the hearts of every Fulham Fan for decades to come...

On October 17, 2005, at approximately 2:55pm BST 11:55pm GMT, Haynes was driving his car in the Edinburgh, Scotland, the city in which he lived, when it was involved in a collision. On October 18, 2005, early afternoon reports on several major news sources, and the Fulham FC official website, suggested that Haynes had died, but these were retracted within an hour, with Haynes' condition subsequently described as "serious"... At approximately 8pm GMT that very evening, it was confirmed that Haynes had died of his injuries, at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

I say we make this happen, he is a legend and one of, if not THE greatest player in Fulham History... He is a personal hero of mine, and the best god damn player to ever grace and Black and White Shirt... He can never be forgotten, for his dedication, and contribution to this club... and that is why he deserves his name on that stand...

For he is... The One and Only... Maestro...

In my opinion it would actually seem a bit disrespectful if this wasn't done. he couldn't have done much more for the whites and it would be a completely fitting tribute. What an absolutely great idea! Johhny Haynes!!!
