Take down sculpture of the Prophet Muhammad peace be up on him sign now

To Whom This May Concern:

I was deeply appalled and shocked to read that a sculpted image, supposedly referring to Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, resides on the courtroom walls of the Supreme Court. I was also amazed to read that when Muslim-Americans petitioned to have the sculpture replaced in 1997, the Supreme Court refused the Muslims pleas. It is heartbreaking to realize that the people that are put in place to lead and organize a country based on freedom and respect for all, refuses to answer the requests of a large group of individuals residing in this country. For Muslims the depiction of our holy Prophet does not represent our religion in this country because having images, or even stating something portrays our Prophet, is against our beliefs and religion. This so called sculpture goes against the sayings of our beloved Prophet when he continuously preached that no one should illustrate anything that is said to be him; so leaving this figure up only insults and upsets the millions of Muslims residing in this country. My family left Afghanistan because we were no longer given basic freedoms that any living human should be allowed to possess. We came here to practice our religion the way it was sent down and spread among the people. For us, America meant that we were allowed to live freely and voice our opinions concerning injustices we might face. This statue hurts the feelings of people that love and respect Prophet Muhammad; it makes us realize that since the statue will not be taken shows a clear sign that we really do not have the rights granted to us in the first amendment stated in the Bill of Rights. Chief Justice William Rehnquist stated in his letter to the council in 1997, "Altering the depiction of Muhammad would impair the artistic integrity of the whole. Additionally, it is unlawful (under US Code) to remove or in any way injure an architectural feature in the Supreme Court." Mr. Rehnquist cared so deeply about an object that has neither life nor emotion, but so easily dismissed the hearts and sentiments of millions of Muslims in America? The longer this image resides in the Supreme Court, the more Muslims will feel alienated in their country. America is failing in its statements that everyone residing in the country has rights and freedoms, yet I fail to see these rights carried out because everyone in the government refuses to listen to our thoughts. I have become deeply disappointed today, and I feel that with the statements made towards not taking the image down, that my rights as an American have been stripped away from me. I am extremely saddened and depressed that no one has listened to the cries of Muslims in this country. Once I again I urge that the Supreme Court changes its decision, and proves to Muslims everywhere that we have a say in this country.
