SUPPORT THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION AT HIGH PLACES

EXPOSE THE NEXUS BETWEEN CORRUPT ELEMENTS IN THE CORPORATE AND POLITICAL CLASS

The recent false allegations by several politicians against Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court Shri Shanti Bhushan and eminent Lawyer Shri Prashant Bhushan shows the level of panic and consternation that has spread among the corrupt elements in the corporate and the political class, at the widespread public anger which has erupted against corruption. This anger expressed itself in the recent peoples movement led by Anna Hazare and led to the Indian government agreeing to the drafting of anti-corruption law known as the Jan Lokpal Bill (Citizens Ombudsman Bill) with the inclusion of the leading members of the anti-corruption movement in the drafting committee.

Thus, persons who have fearlessly fought corruption at the highest levels of the political establishment and the judiciary for the last two decades have become the target of attack by the vested interests. It is well known that Shri Shanti Bhushan and Shri Prashant Bhushan have fought numerous legal battles for communities of the poor and dispossessed, including the displaced people of the Narmada valley. Most recently, Shri Prashant Bhushan fought an important legal battle in the Supreme Court of India exposing the 2G Spectrum scam and the nexus between corrupt elements in the corporate and political class which has led to arrests and imprisonment of several heavy weights of the political and corporate world.

Disconcerted by the challenge to corruption, and running for cover, the vested interests are targeting and attempting to discredit citizens Anna Hazare, Shanti Bhushan, Justice Hegde, Prashant Bhushan, and Arvind Kejriwal, and others who are at the forefront of the movement against corruption, in order not only to sabotage the immediate process of drafting and legislating the Lok Pal Bill, but also to weaken and diffuse the nascent popular movement against corporate corruption, and the loot of natural resources, and to confuse and demoralize the public.

The struggle against corruption is also a struggle against hunger, unemployment, and the large-scale expropriation of lands and livelihoods of the common people of India by the State and the corporates. It is also a struggle against the corrupting of the democratic institutions by self-serving corporates interested only in filling their coffers.

We the undersigned strongly condemn the conspiracy of vested interests to malign and attack the people who are daring to fight corruption at the highest levels. We extend our full support to the fight against corruption.
