Support High-Definition on the Nintendo Revolution sign now

"It is accurate that at this time we will not support high-definition [on Revolution]." - Perrin Kaplan, vice president of corporate affairs, Nintendo of America

As of today the Nintendo Revolution will not support High-Definition. We, the undersigned, believe this is a bad idea and will hurt not help Nintendo in its future endeavors including the Nintendo Revolution.

Nintendo maintains that not supporting true high-definition is a way to cut rising game development costs. However the money saved by this method will not offset the loss of a fan base due to this decision. HD is becoming a mainstay in the North American market (arguably a game publishers biggest market) and is gaining significant ground in Europe and Japan. Although HDTV adoption is currently slim (12.5\% in the U.S.), it's growing, and is expected to increase significantly over the next few years (up to 68.1\% by 2008, according to the Consumer Electronics Association). The FCC has even mandated that TV signals be digital within a few years.

This generation of consoles even supports true high definition (the PS2 and the Xbox support 720p and 1080i). Microsoft is calling the next generation the HD-era and is equipping the Xbox360 to fully utilize this. Sonys PS3 will support not one but dual 1080i outputs! And with the advent of Blu-Ray and/or HD-DVDs by the end of 2006 or early 2007, HD will truly be unleashed to the consumers. In the end this decision will hurt Nintendo more than help it.

Like Nintendos Reggie Fils-Aime said during his E3 2005 press conference, Nintendo is not an or company. We are an and company. So we ask you Nintendo to please include high-definition output on your next console, the Nintendo Revolution. Than it will have another Revolution, the Resolution Revolution.

No HD will only save Nintendo itself money, developers don't HAVE to make games in HD if they don't want to. And many developers actually want to make HD games in the next gen. Will you buy a Revolution? No Country USA
