Support Democratic Change in Tunisia sign now

On January 14, 2011, all people in Tunisias counties, villages, and cities gathered and marched together peacefully on Nations streets and boulevards. They were united in purpose: declaring their freedom and demanding the immediate removal of the 23 year old authoritarian president Ben Ali and his Mafia. Thus began the first Arab political revolution and one of the major events of the beginning of the 21st century. Indeed, we are witnessing the birth of the first democracy in the Arab world.
Tunisians suffered for decades under the Ben Alis regime and risked lives and limbs to obtain their rights, liberty, and freedom. This revolution was started by the people, for the people and is not backed by any international organization, political party or religious movement.
Their cause is just and we must stand with the Tunisian people in their determined quest to obtain a full democratic state. In this historical point in time, we have the opportunity to uphold the core values on which this great nation, the USA, was founded: freedom and liberty from oppression and repression.
In this spirit, we ask our government the following:
One, to send inspectors to Tunisia, along with the United Nations to witness the upcoming elections scheduled in two months. It is crucial that they be free and fair, both in fact and in perception.
Two, Ben Ali, his wife, her family, and his regime have amassed substantial amounts of money, goods and wealth stolen from the Tunisian people. A portion of this stolen money found its way to the US in several forms: real estate, investment in the capital markets, bank deposits etc. As such the US Government must immediately open an investigation; the SEC should freeze the assets of the people listed in this letter and future addenda, and the return of all stolen monies to Tunisia.
Three, should Tunisia to be in need of assistance to alleviate short term disruption of critical food and medical supplies in the next weeks or months, I count on the USA to be the first to respond to the call.
Four, support the long-term security of the Tunisian people through increased collaboration with Tunisia in the areas of commerce, tourism, and technology.
