Stop the 485 Route Cancellation sign now

On Wednesday, February 9th, I was notified by another rider on the 485 that public hearings were being held concerning the alteration or cancellation of the 485 route. As a frequent rider of the 485, I was understandably concerned.

However, the information for these meetings was completely inaccessible. All of the notices posted on the buses were removed before I even heard about the changes, and there is no accessible information online. Furthermore, these meetings were supposedly held during the week. Most of the patrons of the 485 are either students or businesspeople, who cannot attend meetings during the week!

Metros business goals stated on their website include Maintain open lines of communication. In this case, Metro has completely failed. The only information I was able to get about the proposed route changes have been by word of mouth from bus drivers or other riders. The first bus driver I spoke to said that even she learned about the imminent cancellation from a rider, not Metro!

What is most concerning is that this has happened before. In the case of the 256, there was a big protest to keep the route unchanged. It is understandable that Metro wants to put more money into new projects and the rail system, but the cannot ignore the people who depend on the buses every day.

If Metro is considering changing bus routes, it should make the proposed changes clear and accessible and make the effort to gain rider input. Signatories: Please comment on how you depend on the 485 and let Metro know that it cannot ignore the needs of its patrons.
