Stop Runing Our Team, Brian! sign now

Dear Brian Sabean,

As fans of the San Francisco Giants, we ask that you kindly stop ruining our team.

Us Giants fans are some of the most loyal, dedicated and deserving fans in sports. However, in recent years our team has suffered due to poor decisions made by you and your front office.

First of all, our farm system has been destroyed by a plethora of wasteful free agent signings. While some of these, such as Jeff Kent and Ellis Burks, have turned out to our favor, many others have not. Examples of this are Moises Alou, Steve Finley, Shea Hillenbrand, Ryan Klesko, Edgar Renteria, Ryan Garko, and let's not forget the most infamous one of all- Barry Zito. Clearly, your strategy of overpaying free agents who are past their prime has not turned out very well. And trading Tim Alderson, a prized pitching prospect, for Freddy Sanchez was just plain unacceptable. It is obvious you need to gain a better knowledge of the game of baseball, or stop running an organization that is sacred in the hearts and minds of sports fans all around the globe.

Now, we don't have any problems with signing free agents. However, it is the free agents you sign and how much you pay them that makes us angry. Barry Zito was signed when he was clearly on a decline as a starting pitcher, yet he received Bonds type salary. Need proof? In his first four years in Oakland, he had a total record of 61 wins and 29 losses, a 3.12 ERA, 611 strikeouts, and a 1.181 WHIP. Compare that with his last three years before crossing the Bay Bridge, where he sported a 41-34 record, 4.05 ERA, 485 K's, and a 1.33 WHIP. This was while the A's were getting better offensively. As if this wasn't enough, there are plenty of other examples. Edgar Renteria can thank his .250 batting average, 5 homers, and 48 RBI's for the $8 million you paid him last year. Likewise, Steve Finley can credit the $7 million he received from your organization in 2006 to his 6 homers, .246 batting average, and 40 RBI's.

However, while you are willing to overpay free agent's who won't contribute much to the franchise, you won't sign any game changers for similar money. Jason Bay and Matt Holliday are both great players who can contribute a lot to the team, however you have chosen to ignore them and instead go after players like Dan Uggla and Mark De Rosa. Therefore, we, the fans of one of the most glorious franchises in sports, kindly ask that you think before you go any further. Moves you have made in the past with free agent's have set this team back, and we don't want to be set back any further, especially now that we appear to be moving forward. Please, Brian, stop ruining this great baseball team now while you still have a chance.
