Stop Communist Dictatorship in Nepal sign now

Dear all,

Jana Andolan II or the April Revolution has given us hope to an end to the decade long violent insurgency that has claimed the lives of over 13,000 Nepalese and robbed 27 million Nepalese people of their right to live in peace and prosperity. While on the one hand there are indications that the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists (CPN-M) will join mainstream politics and embrace a free market economy, there is an equal likelihood that the CPN-M is simply using this front as a tactical means to reach their overarching goal of establishing a Dictatorship of the Proletariate. Chairman Prachanda's periodic allusion to an October Revolution when things don't flow to his liking, the ongoing abductions and extortions, and the "People's Courts" and "People's Government" which are still very much alive, are all too haunting and paradoxical to what is being spoken in the open--that the CPN-M is ready to play by the rules of democracy and free market economomics.

The leadership within the multiparty democratic forces in Nepal to drive a nation with problems as complex as ours is all too evident. Girija Prasad Koirala has undoubtedly proven to be a man of strength and integrity post April Revolution. Unfortunately the octogenarian seems to be living his last days and from the looks of it there is hardly anyone out there who can walk in the old man's shoes and lead this failing State--except perhaps Prachanda, who has proven himself to be a wise politician and a charismatic personality. The only fear is how he will rule this land. Is he going to embrace a free market economy or are we headed for year zero as in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge?

There is too much uncertainty at this time. We need a balancing force. Girija Prasad Koirala is undeniably that balance at present but what after him? The institution of monarchy is what created this nation and is what holds it together until now. Without a monarchy, this land will erupt in communal and sectarian violence. This is not a petition to rivive an active monarchy in Nepal. It is a petition to keep the institution of monarchy alive in Nepal to keep the balance in the power structure in this nation so that a totalitarian communist dictatorship is not possible. If you agree, please sign this petition and tell others to do the same. With such a balance in power, Nepal can truly prosper within a few years.
