STOP COMMERCIAL BREAKS IN SBS-TV PROGRAMS sign now

We, the under-signed, ask the Federal Parliament of Australia, to amend the Special Broadcasting Service Act (1991) to stop the free-to-air television service of the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS-TV) from interrupting any television programs for advertisements or promotions. Irrespective of their income or financial state we want NO COMMERCIAL OR PROMO BREAK INTERRUPTIONS IN ANY PROGRAMS ON SBS-TV. We support SBS in its endeavours to secure more funding from the Commonwealth Government of Australia. Regardless, we want the Act amended so that any television commercials or promotions screened on SBS-TV may only be placed in the break between the end of one program and the start of the next program. SBS is a tax-payer-government funded public broadcaster. It is not a commercial broadcaster. In late 2006 SBS-TV began interrupting programs for commercial breaks. We urge legislative change and seek a return to a similar style of program presentation that, until late 2006, SBS-TV had practiced since its inception in 1980, where regular TV programs were not interrupted for commercial/promo breaks as they now are.

WE HAVE ISSUE WITH section45(2)(a) of the Special Broadcasting Service Act (1991) WHICH CURRENTLY IS:

section45 "Advertising and Sponsorship"
(2) The SBS may only broadcast advertisements or sponsorship announcements:
(a) that run during periods before programs commence, after programs end or during natural program breaks; and
(b) that run in total for not more than 5 minutes in any hour of broadcasting.

WE WANT section45(2)(a) of the Special Broadcasting Service Act (1991) AMENDED AS INDICATED BELOW:

s45 "Advertising and Sponsorship"
(2) The SBS may only broadcast advertisements or sponsorship announcements:
(a) at the end of a segment in a radio program, between radio programs or in the break between the end of one television program and the start of the next television program; and
(b) that run in total for not more than 5 minutes in any hour of broadcasting.

THE REMAINDER OF section45 DOES NOT REQUIRE ALTERATION
