Statehood for Puerto Rico sign now

To: George Bush [President of the United States of America], Richard Cheney [Vice President of the United States, and President of the United States Senate], Luis Fortuno [Resident Commissioner, Puerto Rico], William Frist [Senate Majority Leader, Republican Party], Harry Reid [Senate Minority Leader, Democratic Party], Dennis Hastert [Speaker of the House], Roy Blunt[House Majority Leader, Republican Party], Nancy Pelosi [House Minority Leader, Democratic Party], Kenneth McClintock [President, Senate of Puerto Rico], Jose Aponte [President, House of Representatives of Puerto Rico], White House Presidential Taskforce on Puerto Rico's status, Relevant and Supervising House and Senate Commissions.

---------------

I, ("the Undersigned"), citizen of the United States of America, with the best of my judgment and ability, ask you to facilitate the means by which the People of Puerto Rico can, through an electoral process, choose a viable and appropriate political future.

In this utterly democratic process of reaching out to my political representatives in Government, I ask that the Federal government enable, with the utmost urgency, the means for Puerto Rico's self-determination. An electoral process which enables the People to decide a completely democratic, permanent political status, with exclusive non-colonial, non-territorial options, which should be set by the President of the United States, and the United States Congress.

As we all understand, the question of status in Puerto Rico has powerful political, economic, and social ramifications. It is exactly because of how important this is to the People of Puerto Rico that we urge you to consider the almost four (4) million United States' citizens, residents of Puerto Rico, which are living in an outdated and inadequate political agreement that only offers them a second-class citizenship, which is not guaranteed by the powers of the Constitution, and no ability to elect our Commander in Chief, or a voting-Delegate to Congress. In other words, the United States citizens of Puerto Rico have no power over their National government. This is tragically appalling, and it is inconsistent with the very principles of our Democracy, as well as the Nations commitment to human rights.

This petition is sent to you, the before-mentioned officeholders, because of your direct position of involvement in the future of Puerto Rico's political status. I trust that you understand the gravity of this issue, and will act accordingly.

If you have any questions regarding the People of Puerto Rico's need for a fully-democratic and permanent political status, please contact our Representative in Congress, Mr. Luis Fortuno.

This petition is not the work of any political party or officeholder. It is the work of a concerned citizen of the United States, resident of Puerto Rico, which counts on his Government to act when its citizens call.
