South Africa needs Hollywood's help sign now

Celebrities should help those who are suffering in my country (South-Africa). They have the power and should step up, speak out! I would love to see more celebs follow in the footsteps of Oprah Winfrey, The Black Eyed Peas, Bob Geldof and Annie Lennox and let the world know about my country in need!

Did you know?

1.

South Africa is currently experiencing one of the most severe HIV epidemics in the world. By the end of 2005, there were five and a half million people living with HIV in South Africa, and almost 1,000 AIDS deaths occurring every day, according to UNAIDS estimates. A survey published in 2004 found that South Africans spent more time at funerals than they did having their hair cut, shopping or having barbecues. It also found that more than twice as many people had been to a funeral in the past month than had been to a wedding. (http://www.avert.org/aidssouthafrica.htm)

Celebs have the power to inform Africans about HIV/Aids... to teach them and warn them! More celebs should wear the red Aids ribbon and visit my country, visit poor areas and teach them about protected sex!

2.

According to a survey for the period 1998 - 2000 compiled by the United Nations, South Africa was ranked second for assault and murder (by all means) per capita. Crime against commercial farmers has continued to be a major problem in the country, and has resulted in thousands either emigrating or giving up the profession. South Africa also has a bad record for car hijackings. The government is criticised for doing too little to stop crime. Some question the effectiveness of the South African Police Service, which is known to make use of private security firms to protect its police stations.

One ticket to a live show of a famous artist... let's take Robbie Williams as an expample... can cost up to 250 South African Rands... enough to pay a well trained security officer to protect South African citizens for a day. With over 20 000 tickets sold for R. William's show in South Africa early in 2006, over SAR500 000 was wasted!

3.

South Africa has 11 official languages: Afrikaans, English, Ndebele, Northern Sotho, Southern Sotho, Swati, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa and Zulu. The country also recognises eight non-official languages: Fanagalo, Khoe, Lobedu, Nama, Northern Ndebele, Phuthi, San and South African Sign Language. Many white South Africans also speak other European languages, such as Portuguese (also spoken by Angolan and Mozambican blacks), German, and Greek, while many Asians and Indians in South Africa speak South Asian languages, such as Hindi, Gujarati and Tamil.

Music is a international language... celebs should spread the word... warn Africans about AIDS and crime and raise money with music and help save South Africa!

More celebs should visit my country, step up and try to save South Africa from going under!
