Skinner Park Dog Friendly Area sign now

Dear Mr. Mitchell, Superintendent & CEO - Chicago Park District

Alderman Burnett, 27th Ward - City of Chicago

Alderman Haithcock, 2nd Ward - City of Chicago

As a resident of the Near West Loop, I would like to express my support for a Dog Friendly Area (DFA) in Skinner Park. The proposed site is on the closed section of Loomis St. between Adams and Monroe adjacent to Skinner Park.

An enclosed DFA would provide a safe environment within the park for everyone, while allowing dog owners and their dogs to enjoy Skinner Park as well.

A dog friendly area will :

Provide a vital public space for dog owners to build community and socialize.
Allow dogs to exercise and socialize off-leash. Socialization and exercise makes dogs friendlier and less prone to nuisance barking.
Promote responsible dog ownership / Reduce the likelihood that dogs will be off-leash in other areas of the park.
Deter drug and other illegal activities since dog owners are frequent park users.
Reduce police resources to enforce leash laws.
The dog friendly area is NEEDED at Skinner Park. I urge you to include the DFA at Skinner Park as part of the 2005 Chicago Park District Capital Budget.

Thank you.
