Sheriff's Deputies for LeFlore County,Oklahoma sign now

As tax paying and law abiding residents of the State of Oklahoma, LeFlore County, we, and our family and friends, are requesting that adequate provision be initiated so that our community will have appropriate services from our Sheriffs Department.
The LeFlore County Sheriffs Department is SEVERELY UNDERSTAFFED and cannot provide adequate security coverage to LeFlore County residents who are outside the cities. It is totally unfair that the Sheriffs Department is manned by only six (6) deputies for the field. This situation allows for only two (2) deputies on duty at any given time to respond to calls out in the county.
LeFlore county area is 1, 585 square milesFar too large an area for only two deputies to cover. It can take two or more days for a deputy to respond, depending on the type of call. It can take up to two hours if an off-duty deputy is called in early to respond when the ones on duty cannot respond for any reason. In light of this serious lack of deputies, LeFlore County residents are not ensured their safety.
We, the undersigned, (Lefore County residents, family and friends of LeFlore County residents) request immediate action be taken to:

1. Hire thirty (30) deputies for the LeFlore County Sheriffs Department,
2. Purchase additional cars for the Sheriff and deputies,
3. Provide continued staff development for all LeFlore County deputies.

In LeFlore County, our Sheriffs deputies are the first response units when someone out in the county calls. There have to be enough deputies to respond.
We will no longer wait for a tragedy to occur. Now we insist on immediate changes to resolve this shortage of manpower in the LeFlore County Sheriffs Department.

Having been a former officer myself and working with 2 cruisers per shift, it's imperative that areas as described have adequate police coverage. Why wait for a tragedy ? Why wait for a lawsuit which would take more from the coffers than hiring another of
