Shekhar Gupta must apologize publicly sign now

To Shekhar Gupta, editor, Indian Express

This is reference to your article in Newsweek titled A Cause for Comfort. You wrote that terror strikes in India, in reference to recent train bomb blasts in Mumbai, were targeted at "Upper-Caste Hindus and also, largely Gujarati." Such an assertion is inaccurate, dangerous and disingenuous. Can you publish the list of casualties and each victims' religion and mother-tongue?

The statement is logically flawed because if Gujaratis were the primary targets then wouldn't a railway station in predominantly Gujarati suburb like Malad or Kandivali be a better target?

But more outrageously, you claim that "On the other side, in April Hindu fanatics bombed the Jama Masjid, the stately 17th-century mosque in old Delhi that is an abiding symbol of Islam in the Subcontinent.". But your own newspaper reported on April 15 that police are investigating a link to Muslim fanatic named Abdul Karim Tunda.

By falsely claiming that Gujaratis were targeted in Mumbai train blasts you are providing a rationale on behalf of Jihadis who murdered 200 people in cold blood.

This is a reprehensible attempt on your part to use your creditability as an editor to muddy public debate about Islamic extremism in India, shift focus from the victims and create moral equivalence between nonexistent crimes and Jihad. You owe it to the victims to clarify your baseless allegations and publish an apology in print and online at expressindia.com.
