Petition Seeking Accountability and Due Diligence from the Council of Asian Pacific Minnesotans

We, Hmong-Minnesotans and concerned allies, seek accountability, due diligence, and non-discriminatory practices by the Council of Asian Pacific Minnesotans (CAPM). It is wrong for the Council to use its position as a state-funded agency to lobby, demean, and degrade the Hmong people. For example, over the last ten years, the Council has frequently made such comment as, prostitution is common within the Hmong community, Forced marriages and underage marriages happens at least three or four times a week, Hmong are worse than the Taliban. These comments by the CAPM are unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated by our community.

We demand a public apology from the council. We call for a Council that has Hmong representation on the board with support and credibility in the Hmong community. We call for a Council that is culturally aware and committed to working WITH Hmong-Minnesotans in a respectful way to identify and address social issues, rather than try to write policies that stigmatize, and criminalize valued Hmong cultural traditions into Minnesota Law.
