Say NO to Synchronous Timekeeping for PAO/PAU Staff at IUPUI sign now

We, the undersigned, are Professional (PAO/PAU) staff at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). While we have accepted the university's transition from monthly pay to biweekly, we have serious problems with the campus's choice of Synchronous timekeeping instead of Asynchronous.

From http://www.fms.indiana.edu/payroll/paopau_transition_QA.asp:

"Synchronous means recording time worked in real time."

As professionals, we are insulted by being asked to clock in and out in real time. There are many, many problems to this, first and foremost being that asking employees to clock in and clock out is most certainly not treating them like professionals.

What happens if I am 5 minutes less than 40 hours at the end of the week? Will I be docked pay? What if the network is down and I can't access the timekeeping system? What if I have to do urgent work at home, but am already at max time? What if, on my way to my computer to clock in, I stop to discuss work with a colleague for 15 minutes?

There are numerous other examples of how this will present problems for staff and how this is unrealistic in many cases for staff and will introduce new inaccuracies to the system.

This system of recording "time worked in real time" is ludicrous at best and disastrous at worst.

If the goal is to have professionals feel like they are working at McDonald's, this will have the desired effect. If you wish to truly continue to consider PAO/PAU as professionals, this is the worst choice.

PLEASE, IUPUI, treat your professional staff like PROFESSIONALS and choose "Asynchronous" timekeeping.
