Save the West Federal Median sign now

We the undersigned respectfully ask the City of Youngstown and our City Council to reconsider and postpone the following decision: Removal of the median on West Federal Street to create additional diagonal parking spaces.

We can certainly understand your desire to increase tourism to our downtown, but this proposal as it stands right now is ill informed and unwelcome by many business leaders, young professionals, and community leaders. The benefits of a tree-lined median far outweigh any additional parking spaces created by your proposal. This action will do nothing to either promote downtown tourism, or tackle the current perception of a lack of Downtown parking. Therefore, it is necessary to take the adequate time to properly plan the Modernization of West Federal Street and not rush to any decision that can jeopardize the future of such an important artery of Downtown Youngstown.

Why? Cities and communities across the northeast are trying to plant trees.

The median and trees are one of the nicest features of downtown Youngstown. When they tore out Federal Plaza, they should have duplicated the older median and didn't. It's amazing to me that anyone would seriously consider such a destructive, pointless id

There is plenty of parking in downtown Youngstown. People simply have to get off their lazy butts and learn to walk a little like they do in any other metrpolitan community. How far do people have to park from the store they are shopping in at the mall? T

As a "Streetscaper" I have worked hard to make Downtown look good. It is a shame to rip the visually pleasing areas out for parking. More people need to walk!

While the rest of the world is planting trees to stop global warming, Youngstown is tearing them down. Why do the people in charge of this city always seem to find a way to move 2 steps forward and then 1 step back?

We need to embrace every charming element of this city. They should be focusing on paving over crack-houses instead of trees.

Please give this the proper consideration it deserves. I do not believe the trees and median need to be removed.
