Save the Historic Buildings at 118, 120 and 122 West Main Street (Durham, North Carolina) sign now

We, the undersigned, support preserving the three historic buildings located at 118, 120, and 122 West Main Street in Durham, North Carolina and, therefore, oppose Greenfire Development's application to the Durham Historic Preservation Commission for a certificate of appropriateness (COA) for demolition of these three historic structures.

The demolition of these buildings would be a great loss to the Durham community, further erasing the architectural footprint of our city's rich historical past. Approving a COA for demolition would be an affront to the fact that these buildings are contributing structures within a recognized historic district. In light of this, we urge the Durham Historic Preservation Commission to deny Greenfire Development's application for a COA for demolition of the historic buildings at 118, 120, and 122 West Main Street.

I think the downtown area of Asheville is a wonderful representation of what Durham's downtown can be. We need to preserve all the older buildings we have.

Without knowledge of the current state of these structures, I am not entirely in favor of saving these structures with the exception of their facades. I believe they can be integrated into a design allowing for a much taller structure to rise from these f

Greenfire, stick to one of your stated virtues (historic preservation) and find a creative way to integrate these buildings into your master plan.

The last thing Durham needs is another free-standing tower. Instead, we need to preserve the unique character of Main Street!
