Save the 8th Wonder of the World (Houston's Dome) sign now

The surprising decision by the U.S. Olympic Committee has left the fate of the Reliant Astrodome uncertain. With the construction of Reliant Park, the home of the Houston Texans, some are saying that the Astrodome will not be needed since Houston is now out of the Olympic race. The Houston 2012 Foundation, which hoped to bring the Olympics to Houston, will cease operations - probably before the end of the year - and sole control of the Dome's fate reverts to Commissioners Court and the Harris County Sports and Convention Corp.
There are many ideas out there on what should be done with our Dome, billed as the Eighth Wonder of the World, but no plans have been made yet. Ideas such as converting the dome into a hotel with state of the art exhibition halls, retail shops and restaurants or upgrading it and promoting more events such as concerts or monster truck rallies are all good ideas.
I am pleading that any idea along this line is better than the alternative of tearing down Houston's most famous landmark. I know others feel the same as I do. My roots are strong in Houston and I have great memories of our beloved Dome. I talk daily to people all over the country and many times have been asked about the Dome and its history. I am hoping to gain support to pass along the feelings and thoughts of Houstonians and others about our Dome.
Please join me in supporting this cause to keep the Reliant Astrodome standing. Let's encourage the Commissioners Court and the Harris County Sports and Convention Corp. to do everything within their power to come up with an alternative to tearing down the dome.

I have had many great times at the dome and cannot believe anyone would tear down such a land mark. It's my landmark for how close I am to "home" when re-entering Houston from a different location...

I'm a native of Houston and have found memories of the dome. We should convert it to a indoor skiing facility. Us Texans love to ski, why give our money to New Mexico and Colorado

Though I never liked it much as a baseball park, The Dome is a historical landmark of great architectural and cultural significance. The birthplace of AstroTurf (and turf-related injuries); weather-proof, air conditioned baseball; and "Dome foam" should b

The Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation & the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo should be ashamed of having such a facility sit vacant as one of the worlds largest rodeo's goes on only a matter of feet away. I would think that with all th
