Save Our Swords sign now

We the undersigned declare our united opposition to the Scottish Executives recent proposals for an outright ban on the sale of swords in Scotland and the carrying of swords in public places.

We believe that the Scottish Executive should give proper consideration to the important historical, cultural, artistic, sporting, economic and religious aspects of legitimate law-abiding sword ownership, use and transportation.

Ceremonial swords are often made so that they break if used as a weapon.

I believe that the Scottish government should seriously consider the action they are undertaking. I worry that it will do more to hinder true cultural study than it will to hinder violent crime. Please do not give in to the temptation to make a 'show' for

As a Scottish re-enactor this would be a truely sad day for all; my Armstrong/Frazier/Lamm/Jefferies ancestors are truely saddened by this.

The idea of re-enactors not being able to use swords to demonstrate fighting is ridiculous.

As a citizen of glasgow i am well aware of the dangers of neds and scum carrying knives, KNIVES are and always have been the problem not swords. it is obvious you have made no efforts to study and observe crime statistics regarding assaults or murders com

Judges and Magistrates MUST be free and able to use their common sense to decide whether the item in question is being carried for a reasonable and legitimate reason, or whether it is clearly the intention of the person concerned to use it as an offensive

This is pointless. What is this realistically going to protect people from when there are still plenty of bread and carving knives if people want to hurt someone else with a sharp pointy object.
