Save "Idiocracy" from Obscurity sign now

Movie lovers, comedians, children, women and men:

We need to take a stand and act ... even if it's only by joining a group of like-minded folks who actually like comedy. The movie "Idiocracy" is in trouble, and it needs your help.

That's right - "Idiocracy" - The guy who brought you "Office Space," and had people singing "It's good to be a gangsta" and talking about their Swingline stapler is trying to bring you a movie that will be watched with your friends, over and over and over again.

The problem is that Fox doesn't know what to do with the movie. They've released it already in theaters, but have you heard anything about it, or seen anything?

Hell no! And you won't most likely unless we can organize enough support to show those short-sighted executives that the people they make movies are "taking the power back," as a Rage Against the Machine song once said.

We need to make it known that this movie needs to be released in more than six whole cities, damnit. So, sign the petition. It takes a minute.

If you're wondering why Fox is trying to can the film, everyone's best guess is that it's because "Idiocracy" has some cajones and dares to laugh at things we all know are hysterical or insane - $4 cups of Starbucks, the media giving more coverage to Brittany Spears' baby-making than real world issues, etc.

"Idiocracy" rips our pop-culture, our companies and the general way of life by transporting one average Joe (Luke Wilson) 500 years into the future. Critics (those lucky enough to see it) are giving the film overwhelming support, and it does such a good job of satiring our world, that CostCo., Starbucks and Fuddruckers all filed civil suits against the film in 2005.

This isn't so much a joke as it is a prediction for where we're heading ... a world where corporations have the power to shut down an awesome movie from a successful director in fear of losing a little advertising revenue, or being spoofed. Cry me a river, Starbucks.
