Save Clarendon Park--Wilson Yard TIF Fund Request sign now

August 19, 2011

To: Alderman James Cappleman, Mayor Rahm Emanuel,Chicago Park District President Bryan Traubert

We, the citizens and taxpayers of Cook County, formally request the $3.5 million from the Wilson Yard TIF allocated to Uplift High School for a green lobby, be reallocated as a down-payment for the Chicago Park District Clarendon Park Fieldhouse renovation, for the following reasons:

* This funding decision was made without any public meetings or community planning process

* Clarendon Park serves more than 5000 residents, including families with children, living within a half-mile radius

* Uplift High School serves 500 students, many who live outside our community

* Clarendon Park Fieldhouse has suffered decades of water damage. Public safety is an issue with crumbling plaster, exposed support beams and mold

* In 2005, the Clarendon Park Local Advisory Council sent a letter to the City requesting Wilson Yard TIF funds to save the Clarendon Park fieldhouse. The City's written reply stated, "...unfortunately, it (Clarendon Park) is not eligible for TIF funding." This is a lie.

We are formally requesting the $3.5 million be used to serve the greatest good of our community. We support the immediate reallocation of monies for our park.

My children love the park...keep it safe and updated so they have the same advantage of being children as their suburban peers. Thank you.

This TIF money should be returned and used for Clarendon Park. Our park is in serious need of rehab especially roof, tuckpointing, etc.
