Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Importer sign now

Here is a proposal that will enable importing of custom 3D models into Rollercoaster Tycoon 3:
1.Atari/Frontier release technical specs on rollercoaster tycoon 3 to programmers working on the scenery importer (under NDA if necessary).

2.These programmers take that information plus what is already known and use it to improve the scenery importer.

and 3.A separate forum unsupported by Atari/Frontier is created to discuss all things to do with making and using custom scenery.

It would be made clear that the importer is not officially endorsed or supported by Atari/Frontier

This proposal is a win for everyone because it enables the community to get what we want with very little effort on the part of Atari/Frontier.

The core argument against custom scenery seems to be that Frontier are worried about custom scenery causing lag on the game engine.
I don't dispute that high-poly scenery will cause lag.
However, things can be done to ensure that custom scenery DOESNT ruin RCT3:

1.Polygon limits/guidelines can be drawn up (possibly with enforcement in the scenery importer or on a future scenery exchange)

2.3D model makers can make models that don't put stress on the engine
Frontier can refuse to provide technical support to anyone running custom scenery

And 3.the community can work together to make sure that high-poly scenery is not made, distributed or used and that scenery authors are given help to make sure their scenery does not place stress on the RCT3 game engine.

By not helping us out, Atari/Frontier are potentially contributing to the very problem that they are so worried about in the first place.

Modding and user-created content has actually made many games MORE popular and generated MORE sales, including:
* The Sims
* Unreal Tournament
* Microsoft Flight Simulator
* Quake
* Doom
* Half-Life
* Command and Conquer
* Neverwinter Nights

As members of the Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 community, we ask that you provide importing for custom 3D models by implementing the above proposal or by providing a way to import custom 3D models that is equally as powerful as what I propose.
