Allen Sessoms
President
University of the District of Columbia

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Dr. Sessoms:

Operation Save UDC, on behalf of students in support of Dr. Sessoms Resignation, hereby ask for your resignation as president of the University of the District of Columbia.

On last Wednesday, February 11, 2009 during a Student Affairs Committee meeting of the Board of Trustees, over 500 students signed a list-serve asking for your resignation, the list is still growing.
We are asking for your resignation for the following reasons.

1) It was quite evident and clear that you were disrespectful and inattentive to the student bodys requests for answers to majority of our questions regarding your current proposal to the Board of Trustees to increase tuition, change the mission to the University and create a community college. Your body language, disrespect and responses lead the student body to the conclusion that you do not care for our welfare.

2) Your plan to lead the university has lacked a multilateral approach due to your perpetual unwillingness to include all stakeholders in the future of the university. This approach is in conflict with due diligence in the planning process.

3) You have not withdrawn your plan for an unprecedented increase that has the potential to make education at the University unaffordable and inaccessible. The student is one of the most important stakeholders in the university community and you simply ignored our request for answers as well as affordability and accessibility.

4) The proposal you have submitted lacks transparency, accountability and controls to address past mismanagement of student tuition and fees.

5) We agree that the University of the District of Columbia needs change, but we are not supporting you as our leader to get us there. Great and vigorous plans become obsolete without support. You do not have our support. It is imperative that our leader must be sensitive to our needs as well as understanding during this difficult and perilous time in our economy. You lack both. We are optimistic about change, but choose to go forward without you.

Be it therefore resolved, that the students of the University of the District of Columbia, hereby, ask for your resignation on this seventeenth day, two-thousand and nine, effective immediately.
If you have any questions or comments, please direct them to William Kellibrew IV at [email protected]

Respectfully Submitted,
Operation Save UDC, on behalf of Students Supporting the Resignation of Dr. Sessoms
