Request for Civil Action Against Club Ritz sign now

Dear Mayor Mallory and Council Members:

We are very disturbed by some of the elected officials actions on its continuous advocacy for Club Ritz. As elected officials who were voted in to speak for and work on behalf of those who put you there, you are not speaking on behalf of your constituency on this issue of shutting down Club Ritz.

Club Ritz is a public nuisance and a liability for the city of Cincinnati and the patrons who attend. After the high-profile murder of Mr. Philant Johnson, rapper T.I.s friend and assistant, and the negative national press this incident received, many Council Members were still making excuses to keep the club open. After a shoot-out on Valentines Day of this year, instead of Mayor Mallory launching an investigation and publicly condemning the club for its ongoing violence, he decided to visit Club Ritz, along with Jerry Springer (who was in town for a fundraiser) and Bill Cunningham to check it out for himself, and then issued a statement that the club was pretty quiet. Really? And now, 3 weeks after District 4 Police and the Roselawn Community Council strongly objected to renewing the liquor license of Club Ritz, Dexter Burroughs was murdered inside the club. Once again, instead of closing this establishment down, the Public Safety committee, chaired by Councilman Cecil Thomas, allowed the owners to explain what went wrong and how they plan to beef up security. Enough is enough! The owners of the club has had too many chances to get it right, yet they continue to fail. Lives are being lost due to their negligence.

Since the clubs liquor license has been renewed for the year, we, the citizens and visitors of Cincinnati, are requesting that you take civil action against Club Ritz to shut it down immediately. If Council Members are truly concerned about the residents in which they represent, and if the Public Safety committee is truly concerned about public safety, then Council will put an end to the disastrous establishment known as Club Ritz. We realize that Club Ritz is an alternative to keep young, African Americans out of downtown who might cause trouble, however, we dont want it in our neighborhoods either.

Our group Shut Down The Ritz Nightclub Facebook community members consists of a diverse population all of across the country, including current and former Cincinnatians, those who have family in the city, and those of us who are watching how the City handles this matter. We hope that you do the right thing by filing a civil action suit against Club Ritz to shut it down and to restore the image of the city and the confidence of those of us who are tied to the city of Cincinnati.
