Request for an Honors College Student Representative on the NJIT Student Senate sign now

We, the undersigned make the following statement:

For many years there has been an issue regarding the Albert Dorman Honors College student representative on the NJIT Student Senate. For some time there existed an Honors College representative but he/she was not given voting privileges. This degraded the representative to a simple bystander with a title.

We believe that the Honors College student body should be given a representative with full senator privileges. This representative will be voicing concerns regarding:

Honors classes
Honors College feedback sessions
Concerns relating to campus wide issues such as Homecoming Weekend, First Friday, Club Fair, Spring Week, etc that Honors College students are involved in.

Taking into account arguments made against an Honors College representative we would like to state the following:

A representative on Senate will help to further integrate the Honors College students with the rest of the campus.
Honors College students are part of the NJIT student body and would like to remove the idea that they are a separate entity.
The Honors College Student Council is not the voice of the Honors College students for the entire campus, it is only a voice within the college as is the Architecture Student Union for architecture students.
In regards to the issue of overrepresentation, we can name several majors that do not have representatives. Therefore, these students are underrepresented in relation to others. There will always be an issue of uneven representation that cannot be solved. Realistically speaking, we do not believe that by having another representative for Honors College students that they will have an advantage over anyone else on campus.
According to the Senate Constitution, you are required to represent the voice of the entire NJIT student body by having a representative from each college. The Albert Dorman Honors College is recognized as a college of the university, thus requiring Senate to have an Honors College representative on Senate.
Honors College students have shown respect and given help to the Student Senate on numerous occasions and would like to receive the same respect and acknowledgment as your fellow NJIT students.

We have a goal to become one with the rest of the student body and to erase a stigma associated with Honors College students. The first step requires the help of you, the Student Senate by creating the Honors College student representative as stated above.
