Reproduction of "Command and Conquer Renegade 2" Petition sign now

The one year anniversary of Westwood's "Command and Conquer: Renegade" is rapidly approaching. When looking at the progress the game has made so far, one may frown upon it or look at it positively, as many fans do. Yet what did make this game such a failure in the eyes of critics?

1. Poor Single Player- The single player campaign was undoubtably lacking, and left much to be desired.

2. Weak Net Code- The Netcode in Renegade's addictive multiplayer was very inefficient. In Renegade, a cable modem could host eight players, while in other games, it could hold up to sixteen.

3. Lack Of Support- Before the game had been released, there were promises of frequent patches yielding new maps and other special features. The patches that were sent out appeared over long periods of time and failed to please most fans.

4. Little Support For "Modding-" Modifications were often full of bugs and caused the game to crash. This left the modding community shattered, and few mod maps were actually ever used.

5. Repititon- After a while, the existing maps seemed to become repetitive. The same tactics were employed over and over again, and most gamers became bored with the game.

Easy as it is to attack the game's weak points, we can definately see its strong points.

1. Revolutionary Multiplayer- Renegade's multiplayer was incredible, and extremely addictive. It added a whole new level to FPS gaming.

2. Cheat Free- Unlike most other FPSs, Renegade managed to stay cheat free up to this day.

3. Challenging- When playing a large game, Renegade was extremely challenging and often made players have to work together and use their heads to find ways to defeat their enemy.

4. Appealing to Fans- The game's background made it easy to reminisce back to 1995, when "Tiberian Dawn" was first released.

As we can see, there were many points to be improven on, and many points that made the game great.

It has recently come to the attention of the Command and Conquer community that "Renegade 2" was in production (screenshots can be seen at The reaction to this was strong, and the demand for Renegade 2 amongst community members was almost unanimous.

This petition asks from Westwood\Electronic Arts:

1. The full production of Renegade 2
2. Better net code
3. Better game support
4. Better mod support
5. Better clan support
6. Better single player

Now, this may seem like an attempt in vain, however the strong points to creating Renegade 2 are numerous. Yes, sales may be decreased from the last Command and Conquer FPS fiasco, however Renegade 2 would certainly be an enormous hit among the fans. Also, there was much to learn from Renegade, and the experience surely proved a step in the right direction towards making a great game. If Renegade could be used as something to improve on, Renegade 2 would be an incredible game.

Also at hand is the credibility of Westwood. Lately fans have expressed frustration at the company for various aspects such as lack of support and allowing Electronic Arts to develop its next title, "Command and Conquer: Generals." By creating Renegade 2, Westwood could reinstall reputation among its fans.

On behalf of the Command and Conquer community, we hope that you reconsider production of Renegade 2.
