Repeal the Spring Hill Fire & Rescue District (SHFD) sign now

The tax payers of Spring Hill, FL have been burdened with the cost of funding a redundant and completely un-necessary government entity, the Spring Hill Fire & Rescue District (SHFRD), which has been responsible for a massive consumption of Spring Hill tax dollars and the levying of extra property taxes upon the residents of Spring Hill, FL since 1974.

The Spring Hill Fire & Rescue District began in 1968 as the volunteer Spring Hill Fire Department. In 1974 the volunteer Spring Hill Fire Department became the Spring Hill Fire & Rescue District thanks in large part to a poorly worded ballot that tricked the residents of Spring Hill into voting in favor of its creation.

Given the current state of the economy, the slow job market, the severely depressed housing market, the ever rising costs of food and basic necessities required for everyday living, the impending tax hikes set to go into effect thanks to the Obama Administration, and the Socialist Healthcare Plan (i.e. Obamacare); the Hernando County Tea Party (HCTP) is gathering signatures to put the need for this major tax burden, the SHFRD, up to a vote of the people.

Our belief is that given the chance, the voters of Spring Hill will decide to repeal the 1974 special referendum that both created SHFRD and gave it the ability to tax the people of Spring Hill via their designation as a special fire tax district.

If we succeed in repealing the 1974 special referendum, and thus abolishing the ability of the SHFRD to tax the people, then the residents of Spring Hill will see a noticeable drop in their annual property taxes.

The HCTP does not seek to abolish the Spring Hill Fire Department, instead, we seek to repeal the 1974 special referendum. By repealing the 1974 special referendum it would effectively abolish the Spring Hill special fire tax district. This in turn would automatically nullify the burdensome property taxes levied upon the residents of Spring Hill, FL and return control over from the Spring Hill Fire Department to Hernando County Fire & Rescue.

Whether you consider yourself a Liberal, Conservative, Constitutionalist, or Independent, the SHFRD's ability to "spend and tax" at will, hurts all of us, and is one more added expense for the hard-working and retired residents of Spring Hill, FL.

Join the HCTP in taking a stand against government corruption by pursuing the Initiative Petition process to repeal the Spring Hill special fire tax district.
