Rent Increase sign now

Dear NCSU Housing,

We, the residents of ES King Village, have become aware of the many purposes behind the upcoming rent increase for the 2008-2009 academic year. This petition is to express the unified voice of ES King Village residents against the magnitude of the increase, and future increases of this enormity.

We understand that some part of the rent increase is unavoidable and some part is directly a result of the proposed sprinkler system project for ES King village.? However, the policy to raise ES King Village rents every year makes the living expense quite high in comparison with available alternatives with similar facilities.? It is apparent that Housing believes that the rent increase is going to cover the upcoming project. However, we believe that raising rents by so much will continue to extend the occupancy problems in ES King Village, forcing more residents to search for other accommodations with reasonable rent, rent that falls within the capacity of a student's budget.? Therefore, this policy is likely to be harmful for both you and the residents.

We only ask you to re-think this policy and consider its harmful effects on all of the residents of ES King Village.

Thank you,
The residents of ES King Village

Apt # H16 $25 is a large increase considering many graduate students barely make $1000 monthly and most of that goes to rent already. With the recent drought it does not make sense to add a sprinkler system and raise rent to cover this.
