Release the Sixth Harry Potter Movie On Time sign now

Dear Warner Brothes Studios,

It has recently been brought to the attention of the world that your organization has chosen to push back the release of the sixth Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," from its anticipated release date of November 2008 to July of 2009. We have come to understand that this move has not occurred because of a problem with filming (which should be completed), publicity, contracts, or actors, but because Warner Brothers Studios has apparently not made enough money off of the Harry Potter movie series.

Thus far, the Harry Potter movies have grossed approximately $4.48 BILLION USD (United States Dollars) when not adjusted for inflation. The latest movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," grossed $12 million USD on opening night ALONE and surpassed "Spider-Man 2" for the highest Thursday opening in history at $44.2 million USD. These numbers are greater than the GNPs of some smaller countries.

We, the dedicated fans of both the Harry Potter books and movies, believe that this decision does not match with the point of the Harry Potter books or the purpose of author J.K. Rowling. While we understand that money is and always will be important, especially for such a prosperous studio as Warner Brothers, we are disgusted that the series has become nothing more than a money hog for your company. We already purchase advance tickets days, if not weeks, ahead of time so that we are guaranteed to be able to attend the midnight release of each new movie. We have faithfully stood by (or politely protested) changes in actors and differences between the books and movies. We have forgiven transgressions and have been as supportive with both our words and our money as we can be. This, however, is too much.

We are disgusted by your decision to postpone the release of this movie for the reason you have given. We already will have to fight to reserve tickets to see it, and most of us will probably see it more than once - knowing now that we will also have to fight the summer movie crowd on top of these problems bothers us deeply.

We, the dedicated and sincere fans of Harry Potter, implore Warner Brothers Studios to reconsider this decision while there is still time. If the choice to postpone can be made last-minute, then the choice to reinstate the original release date can be made last-minute as well.
