Regarding Leaders Emotionally Ambushing Members of Our Community sign now

We believe that the way that authority figures in the church have been handling contentious issues is morally wrong and rife with potential for oppression. Specifically, the following behaviors have been observed and are of immediate concern:

1.) Not informing those who are in disagreement with something within the church that a conversation on the topic is about to take place even when directly asked "what do you need to speak with me about?" This is especially egregious when a reasonable person could assume that the topic might be upsetting to the lower powered individual.

2.) Not being sensitive to other things the lower powered individual may have on their personal agenda when the authority figure(s) determine the date, time and location of the discussion;

3.) Directing the lower powered individuals into a secluded place for the conversation whether the individual in the position of less power in the conversation prefers such privacy or would prefer to have trusted support during the conversation, and without regard for other members of the individual's family;

4.) Turning away individuals who notice the lower power individual's distress and attempt to intervene even if the lower power individual would welcome their supportive presence;

5.) Making unilateral "our way or the highway" decisions before entering into the conversation, and hence showing unwillingness to reach consensus, negotiate, or even listen to the lower powered person's perspective before coming to judgement.

These issues all violate the CARE Covenant of our community (available online at http://www.wsuuc.org/members/care-covenant.php)and need to be immediately remedied for the health and well-being of our beloved community.
