Re: Misleading information released by NBC Studios sign now

We, the Undersigned, feel that NBC Studios and the Today Show was cruel in taking the media attention circling the sixth book in the multimillion-dollar Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and using it to attract ratings.

On this morning of July 12, 2005, hundreds of fans set their alarms as much as 4 hours early only to wake up to disappointment. NBCs Today Show announced that Jim Dale, the voice of Harry Potter, would appear on the show to read a new excerpt on the air, and also live for a few lucky fans. Until this morning, NBC did not specify what book the reading was from, until this morning when the Today Show confirmed that the reading would be from Half-Blood Prince.

The information NBC released was misleading. The allegedly new excerpt is in fact two years old and from the fifth book, Order of the Phoenix. And most fans (lucky fans ring any bells?) have read the book.

Also, major fan resource MuggleNet.com reported earlier this week, The question still remains: Which book will he [Jim Dale] be reading from? We contacted NBC and we're told it's being kept a secret. This was mentioned briefly above. Why would it be kept a secret? 1) Because it was from the sixth book and a high security matter, which was not the case, or 2) Because NBC Studios wanted to imply that it was from the sixth book, taking advantage of the media attention around it.

We, the Undersigned are asking for a simple apology from NBC Studios and the Today Show for releasing misleading information and lying to the public, and we ask that they refrain from doing this again.

It was cruel to taunt us like that! NBC should be ashamed. Either that, or they consider two years ago "new"...

I found the stated by NBC to be misleading, and as they are stated to be 'turht seeking journalists', I find this entire situation to be unacceptable; espicially for a station with your reputation.

NBC claims to bring the latest in news around the world and yet they read a two-years-old passage? That is hardly the latest in Harry Potter News. I shun false advertising.

You showed clips of the new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince books in a factory and said that Jim Dale would be reading a passage from the NEW book. People from all over got up really early, expecting to be hearing the first passage to ever be read

I'm so sad and feel so bad for those poor children who were clearly dissapointed. I still love Matt L. though, he's such a sweety. It's not his fault if the Today Show is a horrid corporate show who only cares about making money. I vow to never tune into

What NBC did was terrible. They said he would be reading from the new book. OotP has been on the market for about two years. This was crummy false advertising.
