Queen's for the Designated Suppliers Program sign now

We are pleased that the university has already taken positive steps towards making our campus sweat-free by adopting a Code of Conduct for Licensees making Queens apparel, and affiliating with an independent monitoring organization, the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC). However, both the WRC and United Student Against Sweatshops (USAS) have come to the realization that the Code of Conduct system is failing; university apparel is still largely made in sweatshops.

Factories that do comply with the Codes of Conduct are often abandoned in favour of factories with lower standards; companies are simply unwilling to pay more. Consequently, USAS and the WRC have come up with the Designated Supplier Program (DSP). Universities who sign onto the DSP commit to using factories that have proven their commitment to paying a living wage and freedom of association. The DSP gives factories incentive to reform in order to get university contracts.

We the Undersigned petition Queens University to adopt the Designated Suppliers Program to ensure that garment workers making Queens apparel are paid a living wage, and given the freedom to demand their rights.
