We, the signatories of this petition, came to know about the death of an 11 year old student Shanno after she slipped into a coma as a result of the punishment meted out to her by her MCD school teacher.

We are shocked at the atrocity and think that the following ought to be done.

1. We want an unbiased investigation into this matter.

2. We want the authorities to fix criminal liability on the accused, sending out a message that acts as a clear deterrence in the future.

3. We want the authorities to enact a law which ensures that no matter what, why or how, no student should be given corporal punishment in any form.

4. We want the authorities to ensure that adequate compensation is paid to the parents of the deceased child.

5. We want the authorities to appoint an enquiry committee which will go to all MCD schools to see if using physical/mental torture on students is prevalent.

6. We want the authorities to re-look into the capacity building training sessions of teachers and see if these sessions equip the teacher to handle student issues without using physical torture.

7. We want the authorities to assess the workloads of teachers and see if their stress levels cause them to act unreasonably.

8. We also want the authorities to investigate if the treatment given by the hospital in which Shanno was admitted was adequate and there was no medical negligence.

Absolutely agree! Education in India needs to come out of its primitive mindset and methods, which might have helped the British produce subservient babus for running the enslaved India, but are totally counter-productive to the new reality of a free coun

If one is brought to books so should the others. But a start would be a good change. And the goverment also needs to look at facilities available at MCD schools. Cause a school with its facilities and that has regular checks will also benifit the system a

I think our govt should have to be more rigid about the liberties that has been given to Teachers. There should be a limit to any punishment & if things are not in control then parents should be involved into this. The punishment has to given rather t

This is not the first incident, in the recent past a few innocent kids have also suffered due to the inhuman behavior of their teachers. It is good that we are raising this issue now; WE must try to wake up ALL who are not bothered by this incident so far
